Defining the Roles

Of Youth Members

Some of their key responsibilities are:

  • To respect and support other members
  • To shape their own council in form and objectives
  • To organize and facilitate their own meetings
  • To identify ways that adults can help
  • To mentor the younger or less experienced YAC members
  • To network with other youth and community organizations
  • To recruit new members
Of Adult Members:

Some of their key responsibilities are:

  • To respect and support YAC members
  • The be a stable, active member of the YAC
  • To be a mentor to the youth and offer suggestions based on their experience
  • To be an open-minded, positive role model

Some additional responsibilities can be:

  • To provide meeting space if necessary
  • To assist with logistical tasks when necessary (i.e. distributing minutes, ordering food for meetings...)
  • To select youth for employment positions
  • To liaison with funders (i.e. prepare proposals, activity reports, etc.)
