Taking Pride

About

Taking Pride is an interactive six workshop curriculum for 2SLGBTQ+ youth which aims to promote healthy relationships and reduce dating violence. The curriculum was developed by members of McCreary’s Youth Research Academy in partnership with UBC’s Stigma and Resilience Among Vulnerable Youth Centre (SARAVYC) and 2SLGBTQ+ youth across BC.

The six workshops each take about 45-60 minutes to complete and cover topics such as communication skills, consent, how to recognize healthy and unhealthy attitudes and behaviours in a relationship, and how to support friends involved in unhealthy relationships or experiencing dating violence. Participants also have opportunities to learn and practice skills that contribute to healthier relationships.

The curriculum is designed for school or community groups, such as GSA clubs, and can be facilitated by local young people, with the support of an adult ally. The facilitators will receive training and support from McCreary staff.
